This book is dedicated to one of the most interesting works of Old Bulgarian fiction, the short novel "Stephanitis and Ichnilatis", translated from the Greek language into the Bulgarian in the 13th c. Genetically the work is connected with the Indian collection "Panchatantra", written in Sanskrit about the 3rd-4th c. In fact this short novel was a new work which emerged on the basis of the translation of "Panchatantra" in the 6th c. into the Middle Persian language (Pahlevi) in India by the court physician Burzoe: this was the Arabic text of the work, composed by the founder of Arabic literary prose Abdallah ibn al-Mukaffa (8th c.), entitled "Kalila and Dimna". Probably in the 80s of the 11th c. "Kalila and Dimna" was translated into the Greek language under the title "Stephanitis and Ichnilatis" on the orders of the Byzantine Emperor Alexius I Comnenus (1081-1118) by Simeon Sites, one of the most learned Byzantines of the age who reworked the Arabic text. It was precisely the Byzantine text that was translated into the Bulgarian language in the 13th c. with certain changes.
