This monograph offers an analysis of a group of structurally identical texts in child folklore - the so-called cumulative verses, by breaking away from the traditional investigation in this sphere. Special attention is paid to the cumulative structure, considered to be of a relict type. Two types of verses are distinguished: the first type has an obligatory introductory WHERE question; the second one has an obligatory introductory WHY question. The analysis proves that cumulative verses should not be regarded only in the context of child folklore but as depots preserving archaic nuclei.
