Notes:
The subject of this treatise are the oldest iconostases (16th-18th century) from churches in Bulgaria. During that period, iconostases had their own specific features, which differ from these during the period of the Bulgarian National Revival (18th-19th century). The aim of the work is to give a better description and understanding to these specific features in various aspects: the composition, the iconographical programme, the repertoire of the ornaments. The Bulgarian iconostases that were created throughout the ages, yet preceeding the Rennaissance, are in themselves magnificent monuments of the Orthodox art.
