This Wildlife Index of French Guyana is a register of all valid names for all vertebrates currently living in French Guyana: fishes, amphibians, reptiles (lizards, snakes, tortoises and turtles), birds, and mammals. It is organized in alphabetical order within the major groups. It lists 1652 species in 907 genera, belonging to 220 families. This index is a taxonomic database also used in Guyana`s ZNIEFF (Natural Areas of Ecological and Wildlife Interest) software. It can also be used as a reference for other zoological databases on Guyana. A short bibliography is included. Most zoologists with an expertise in Guyana`s fauna were involved in this work which should be the reference book for those involved in wildlife management.
